Huge crowds flocked to Southend's newest nightclub as it flung open its doors with a special performance from boyband Five.

Popworld in Warrior Square held its launch events last weekend welcoming the band on Saturday night.

The sold out event marked the launch of the club which opened after a £500,000 revamp.

A spokesman said: "A huge thank you to our pop squad who made our sold-out opening weekend absolutely outstanding!

Popworld is a growing chain of nightclubs specialising in “cheesy pop music”, with sites up and down the country, including one in Chelmsford.

The venue was once a Chicago Rock Cafe, before it was transformed into Seymours under the ownership of Dick De Vigne.
