People in a one of Essex’s smallest villages will pay the county’s highest council tax bill this financial year.
Households in Sutton, a village of less than 200 people in the Rochford district, will pay £2,171.37 for a Band D property from April.
Residents’ council tax bill is made up from charges by several different local authorities, including the county, district and parish councils. Sutton Parish Council declined to comment.
In February, Essex County Council voted to increase its share of council tax by by £49.05 for Band D properties, to £1,450.17.
Meanwhile, the precept charged by the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex will increase to £313.74, with £233.46 of this going to the policing authority and £80.28 to the county fire and rescue service.

Rochford District Council has also raised council tax for the next financial year, with the district-level bill increasing to £252.45 from April. That leaves Sutton Parish Council, with a parish precept of £155.01.
Recorded in the Domesday Book, the village is one of the smallest in the district, but once had a flourishing market and fair. It is home to the medieval All Saint’s Church, which dates back to Norman times, and the Red Brick Barn, which is often used as a wedding venue.
Located in the south east of the county, between the River Roach and Southend, it’s just 1.7 miles from London Southend Airport.
