A RESTAURANT with stunning views of the Thames Estuary will re-open this week following a big refurbishment, boasting a luscious menu packed with seafood delights.
No.1 Cockleshed, in the former site of Simply Seafood in Old Leigh, was launched in July by the owners of the popular Ocean Beach seafront restaurant.
But owners Jonathan Bacon and Richie Bridge soon realised that the space was not big enough to cater for their ambitions, and began a major revamp project last month, and the new-look restaurant is set to re-open on Thursday.

The restaurant promises a packed menu of top-class treats, including griddled sea bass, salmon and prawn linguini and the staple beer battered cod and chips.
For meat lovers, a juicy rib eye steak or chargrilled chicken breast with mushroom and brandy cream sauce will tempt the tastebuds.
Mr Bacon said: “The grand re-opening will be on Thursday following the full refurbishment of the venue interior.
“We have been busy removing some of the internal walls, re-supporting the structure, and re-locating the bar to increase the internal space for customers.
“There is also a fantastic new artwork mural created by Karl and Steve Sims.”
The family-run restaurant, which offers a “wide and diverse selection of high-quality fresh food, with a great atmosphere and view”, will welcome guests on Thursday.
Mr Bacon added: “We would have invited more people but planning permission to make better use of the outside space was declined.”
Reflecting on the work so far, he added: “I think we have achieved a lot in such a short time.
“The refurbishment was necessary as the existing building was showing its age, with warped floors and ceilings, and the space was simply not large enough to sustain a business and retain staff throughout the year.
“It has been tough to build a reputation in such a competitive location within the first year, but hopefully the customers will appreciate the changes.
“We are very excited to re-open.”
Sister restaurant Ocean Beach, on Eastern Esplanade, offers modern cuisine from a glass dining room which is a huge hit with residents and tourists.
