Essex is being battered by strong winds today as experts have issued a weather warning with up to 60mph gusts expected.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind in the county from 10am until 6pm today.

The experts warn strong and gusty southwesterly winds may lead to some disruption, particularly for prone high-sided vehicles.

According to the Met Office, delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges  as well as some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely.

They also warn to expect damage to trees, possible short term loss of power and other services, as well as disruption to some bus and train services.

Here is the hour-by-hour forecast for Southend, Canvey and Basildon, from 1pm, while the warning is in place:

Southend

1pm: southwesterly winds with average speed of 26mph, gusts up to 47mph

2pm: southwesterly winds with average speed of 26mph, gusts up to 46mph

3pm: southwesterly winds with average speed of 24mph, gusts up to 44mph

4pm:  southwesterly winds with average speed of 23mph, gusts up to 41mph

5pm: southwesterly winds with average speed of 23mph, gusts up to 41mph

6pm: southwesterly winds with average speed of 20mph, gusts up to 38mph

Basildon

1pm: southwesterly winds with average speed of 25mph, gusts up to 45mph

2pm: southwesterly winds with average speed of 24mph, gusts up to 43mph

3pm: southwesterly winds with average speed of 23mph, gusts up to 40mph

4pm: southwesterly winds with average speed of 23mph, gusts up to 40mph

5pm: southwesterly winds with average speed of 22mph, gusts up to 39mph

6pm: southwesterly winds with average speed of 22mph, gusts up to 39mph

Canvey
