A road in Essex has been shut off by police after a tree has fallen down amid strong winds.

Police are in Finchingfield Road, near Stambourne, as a tree is resting on power cables in the road.

A police car in the road shows the road has been shut off while they deal with the incident.

An Essex Police roads unit spokesman tweeted: "There are many calls coming in of this nature. Take extra care on the roads."

This comes after the Met Office issued a weather warning this morning for strong wind in Essex.

The yellow weather warning for wind has been in place in the county from 10am until 6pm today.

The experts warn strong and gusty southwesterly winds may lead to some disruption, particularly for prone high-sided vehicles.

According to the Met Office, delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges  as well as some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely.

They also warn to expect damage to trees, possible short term loss of power and other services, as well as disruption to some bus and train services.
