Emergency services descended on a Colchester road last night after reports of a knife-wielding man making threats.
The city's policing team were called to a disturbance in the Victoria Road area on Friday night following reports of a man armed with two knives making threats to harm others.
Police officers secured the scene and were supported by firefighters and ambulance crews as the man barricaded himself on a second story balcony.

After a 40-minute standoff, police say they built up a "sufficient rapport" with the man and convinced him to surrender to them.
Officers then recovered a number of knives from the scene.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "The male been taken to hospital for treatment for a number of injuries believed to be self-inflicted and has been arrested [on suspicion of] a number of criminal offences, the circumstances of which will be subjected to further investigation.
"Shout out to our partners from Essex Fire and Rescue Service and Essex Ambulance Service for your prompt help and support to successfully resolve this incident."
