Generous folk donated hundreds of Easter eggs to people in need to make their lives that little bit sweeter.

The One Love Project in Southend began giving out the donated Easter eggs to guests and visitors on Thursday April 6, ahead of Easter Day, after they received hoards of chocolate goodies from individuals and businesses.

People were quick to respond to the “Easter Egg 1000 Challenge” set by One Love in a bid to collect up 1,000 chocolate eggs to give to those in need.

Rhiannon Jones, trustee at One Love, said: "It has been so heart-warming to receive such a huge amount of donations from individuals and prestigious groups in our community.

“These eggs will go towards providing an Easter treat to people experiencing homelessness and food poverty in Southend. We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to those who have kindly donated Easter Eggs as part of the 1,000 challenge. Every donation is important in supporting people in our local community."

The donations, which exceeded 900 as of late last week, came pouring in from lots of different places including West Ham football fans and support group, Broadway belles WI, estate agents and gyms, churches and individuals.
