INITIAL work is under way ahead of the opening of Basildon’s newest fast food business.
Tim Hortons is set to open in Miles Gray Road on the site of the old Burger Brats restaurant.
A large steel structure has been installed on the site after the former building was demolished.
Craig Rimmer, councillor for regeneration, said: “I think it’s fantastic and it’s a well -loved Canadian chain that’s making a splash around the world.
“I think the fast food, coffee and donuts will be very popular with Basildon people.
“Basildon is on the up and businesses want to come and open here.
“We are seeing lots of regeneration around the town and when firms see others opening up they want to follow.
“The town centre is also changing and East Square is becoming a really dynamic centre for the town.
“I think it’s all very exciting.”
The new business will be opposite the Pipps Hill Retail Park and near the new St Hilary Retail Park.
The new retail park will include Lidl, Greggs, Tile Mountain and is also set to host a Starbucks.
Works at the new retail park looks almost complete with car parking areas for the businesses finished.
Tile Mountain previously indicated it was targeting a spring opening, while Lidl has told the Echo it is aiming to open this summer.
Tim Hortons is a Canadian fast food chain that sells food from breakfast items, burgers, chicken tenders, and lattice fries as well as both hot and cold drinks.
Last September Basildon Council given the chain planning permission for the new business.
The new drive-through coffee shop and restaurant will be the second Tim Hortons branch in south Essex, with a branch already open at Lakeside Shopping Centre.
Demolition works began on the site in Basildon in mid March and the former burger restaurant was quickly pulled down.
The site was once the home of the Grand Central restaurant which later became Burger Brats after a £300,000 investment by restauranteur Steve Haslam. Tim Hortons was unable to comment on the new business in the town.
