SOUTHEND Airport has issued a warning over an “ongoing risk to aircraft safety”.

In a statement, bosses said a fence has been temporary installed due to regular anti-social behaviour in the area.

They add they are duty-bound to prevent this as it is an ongoing risk to aircraft safety.

A spokesman for Southend Airport said: “The recent temporary fence installation, near Viscount House, is a new preventative measure given recent observations of regular anti-social behaviour in the area.

“There has been a significant increase in litter and contents of ash trays, generating actual foreign object debris (FOD) and we are therefore duty-bound to prevent this ongoing risk to aircraft safety.”
