Police investigating a report of sexual harassment have made an arrest at a south Essex station in connection with their probe.
British Transport Police received a report a 14-year-old girl had been sexually harassed while travelling on the Elizabeth Line on two seperate occasions.
In connection with the investigation into these incidents, officers carrying out patrols yesterday morning (April 19) arrested a man at Brentwood.
The 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of two counts of harassment and has been bailed with conditions while police enquiries continue.
The force in Stratford tweeted yesterday: "The team had an early start today to look for a male who had been sexually harassing a young girl on the Elizabeth Line.
"I’m pleased to report that the suspect is now in custody. If you experience harassment whilst on the railway, remember you can text us discretely on 61016."
In a statement, a British Transport Police spokesman confirmed: "Officers received a report that a 14-year-old girl had been harassed while travelling on the Elizabeth Line on two separate occasions (20 and 28 February).
"Following proactive patrols by officers yesterday, a 54-year-old man was identified by officers at Brentwood and arrested on suspicion of two counts of harassment.
"He has been bailed with conditions while enquiries continue."
