HERE are the top five Southend beaches ranked by visitors on Tripadvisor. 

Earlier this week, five Southend beaches were named among the best at the international Blue Flag awards. 

Those beaches were East Beach Shoebury, Shoebury Common, Thorpe Bay, Three Shells Beach, and Westcliff Bay.

There were also eight Southend beaches that received a Seaside Award. Those beaches were Chalkwell Beach, Jubilee Beach, Thorpe Bay Beach, Three Shells Beach, Shoebury Common Beach, East Beach Shoebury, Bell Wharf Beach, and Westcliff Bay.

On Tripadvisor, the top five beaches in Southend have been ranked and here is what they are. 

1. Shoebury East Beach - This has been given a rating of 4.5 out of five. One visitor said: "Nice and quiet here. We found the place generally clean and were lucky to not see any dog mess either. We had a lovely day here, really enjoyed it and will be coming back again this summer." 

2. Thorpe Bay Beach - This has been given a rating of four out of five. One visitor wrote: "What a beautiful beach very clean and very pretty love all the beach huts along there."

3. Chalkwell Beach - This has also been given a rating of four out of five. A review stated: "I really enjoyed a stroll along the beach from here to Southend."

4. Westcliff Beach - This has been given four out of five. One visitor said: "Very nice beach and lovely. A quiet and relaxing place. I would say perfect for family time." 

5. Bell Wharf Beach - This has also been given four out of five. One reviewer wrote: "Great for the kids, usually clean, and lots of fun to be had."
