DETAILED plans for the new Purfleet-on-Thames Railway Station, which will form part of a £1billion regeneration project, have been submitted.

The Purfleet-on-Thames regeneration project, which includes 2,850 homes, has outline planning permission but the layout, scale, appearance and landscaping for schemes, including the new station must be approved.

The plans include a replacement railway station with a ticket office, station footbridge, office space along platform canopies and pedestrian and cycle access. If approved, it will be in the first phase of the wider regeneration programme.

The footbridge will form the main access to the station which will be built as two blocks adjacent to two platforms The station ticket office and staff accommodation will be located on the concourse along with the ticket office, staff rooms and toilets with direct access to the concourse.

The new railway station will replace the existing Purfleet station and will be owned by Network Rail with passenger services operated by C2C.

Purfleet Centre Regeneration Limited (PCRL), in partnership with Thurrock Council, plans to deliver the new homes around a new town centre, a media and film village and a Integrated Medical Centre in a deal signed in 2015. It is one of several Thurrock regeneration plans.

Swan Housing Association is a major partner in PCRL but Swan, which has recently merged with Sanctuary Housing after running into financial difficulties is yet to confirm that the scheme will be honoured.

Last year councillors expressed frustration at delays in starting the scheme.

The first phase of the regeneration scheme also includes 61 homes being delivered by Swan Housing and NU Living as part of the partnerships making up PCRL. It is the first phase of housing being delivered under the new Masterplan for Purfleet-on-Thames.
