Top Gear staff 'signed off work' after Andrew Flintoff's crash

'Freddie' Flintoff was injured in an accident at the Top Gear Test Track - the Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey - last December.

According to The Sun, the presenter sustained broken ribs and serious facial injuries in the crash. 

An investigation by the BBC into the incident was carried out earlier this year and as a result, filming of the latest series of Top Gear was scrapped.

Following the conclusion of the investigation, a BBC spokesperson said: "We have sincerely apologised to Freddie and will continue to support him with his recovery.

"This has also impacted the production team, who we continue to support.

"Finally, there will be a health and safety review of the show, in line with our procedures."

The latest reports are Top Gear staff that witnessed Flintoff's accident have had to be signed off work indefinitely still "struggling" to come to terms with an incident described as "something you would truly want to unsee".

Speaking to the Mail Online, one source said: "The scenes were awful, something you would truly want to unsee.

"The idea of returning to do that kind of work again for some people is just too much.

"It has been a terribly hard time for everyone involved in the crash. Some are still struggling with it so have been signed off work."

Former England cricketer, Flintoff, was one of three presenters on the show, along with Paddy McGuinness and automotive journalist Chris Harris.

He began presenting Top Gear in 2019.
