SPIDER-man, stormtroopers and Indiana Jones joined forces to help an award-winning barber shop celebrate its 30th anniversary.

Simon Foxen, owner of Barber Shop in Hart Road, Thundersley, held a fundraising event to celebrate the landmark over the weekend.

He first opened Simon Foxen Barber Shop back in May 1993 and soon became the first “movie memorabilia barber shop”.

Simon had always had a passion for all things movies and superhero comics, and integrated that into his hairdressing business.

He has since gone on to provide more than 200,000 haircuts, as well as setting up a charity alongside the business. Thundersley Superhero Alliance, was formed in 2017 by Simon and his friends, who would also dress up as superheroes - and it has raised more than £200,000 to date for a variety of good causes.

To celebrate his barbershop turning 30, the charity got together to raise money for Little Havens and to thank his clients over the past 30 years.

Simon said: “The last 30 years have really flown by since I opened. It has been incredible.

“So many clients have sat in my chair, and they have all become like family to me.

“I have even seen clients grow up, get married, and then have children who they bring to my shop. It has been an honour.

“Having the shop has opened so many doors for me.

“It has helped me form the Thundersley Superhero Alliance which has allowed me to give back to my community, that I owe so much by fundraising for charities across south Essex.

“Here is to the next 30 years.”

Simon has been in the hairdressing industry itself for almost 40 years. He also specialises in haircuts for children with various special needs and arranges after hour appointments for them.

Rebecca Harris, MP for Castle Point, attended the celebrations and said: “Over the years Simon has raised more money that anyone could count or remember for good causes.

“It is one of the characters at the heart of our community.

“Well done to Simon, and may he go on to serve the community with his clippers in hand for many years to come.”
