PET owners have been left devastated after a popular reptile store will close its doors for the final time.

Jurassic Ark Reptiles, in Rutherford Close, Leigh, has confirmed it will be closing due to a “change in personal circumstances”.

Bosses put out a statement on social media letting residents know of the sad news.

In a statement on Facebook, they wrote: “It is with a very sad heart that we must share the news with you that Jurassic Ark Reptiles will be closing its doors.

“Due to a change in personal circumstances, we can no longer commit the time needed to run the business the way it deserves.

“Can we just take the opportunity to thank each and everyone of our customers and staff over the last five years who have supported us.

“We will be selling everything in store, so now is the time to grab a bargain.

“We haven’t confirmed a closing date as yet so please watch this space for details.”

Jurassic Ark Reptiles first opened back in June 2018. The shop sells a wide variety of reptiles as well as housing, equipment, and live and frozen food.

Sarah Smethers, 37, from Eastwood, said she and her children will really miss the store.

She said: “I am saddened to hear the news of this shop’s closure.

“Living locally, it is a convenient location for us to get reptile supplies.

“The owner has always been so helpful and knowledgeable with any questions I had, and all the staff were friendly.

“The kids enjoyed going here to see all the animals and when quiet occasionally got to see the animals up close which they loved.

“I want to wish all at Jurassic all the best for the future. I am sorry to see them go.”

Other residents were also quick to express their sadness, one wrote: “So sorry to hear this.

“Thank you for taking such good care of my Peggy, my three-legged beardy, she loved going on holiday to the shop with you guys.”

Another added: “Really sorry to hear this. I needed a waterfall once and at the time you seemed to be the only shop selling them.

“Such a shame, you will be missed.”
