A NEW European route could be launching from Southend Airport, according to reports.

Travel Weekly has reported that the 2024 Balkan Holidays will include flights from Southend Airport to Bourgas in Bulgaria for the first time.

This comes weeks after Southend Airport announced Paris as their fifth destination that easyJet will serve from the city.

This is alongside Amsterdam, Malaga, Majorca, and Faro.

Balkan Holidays new programme offers flights from 19 UK airports, which includes Southend for the first time - according to Travel Weekly.

Bourgas is found in the south-east corner of the country, with the Bulgarian Southern Black Sea on one side and Turkey on the other. Bourgas is synonymous with "partying" and its "nightlife".

Chris Rand, marketing manager, said: “Our holidays to Bulgaria are great value for money and continue to be very popular.

“We look forward to working with our trade partners to make summer 2024 a real success.”

The Echo asked Southend Airport about the claims in Travel Weekly.

A spokesman said: "We are in talks with multiple airlines and tour operators and hope to be able to confirm further routes and partnerships with you soon.

"New, confirmed routed will be announced on our social media feeds and via the official airport community newsletter."
