Police have charged five men in connection with their probe into a series of south Essex incidents last week.
In the early hours of Thursday (June 8), officers received a call reporting a car had been taken from outside an address in South Ockendon.
That same morning, Essex Police received a call reporting attempted break-ins at two addresses in Aveley.
At around 6.30am, another call was made to our force control room reporting a burglary in Stanford-le-Hope. It was reported a car, a Ford Kuga, had been stolen from outside an address.
Police quickly traced the car to the A127, at Wickford, stopping it by 12.15pm that same day. Five suspects were detained and were taken to custody for questioning.
Police have since charged five men.
- Curtis Tiller, 19, of Hamstel Road, Southend, has been charged with burglary and aggravated vehicle taking. He was due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (June 10).
- Oatty Dowell, 18, of Pound Lane, Basildon, has been charged with burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. He was also due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
- Shane Hagger, 21, of Panfields, Basildon, has been charged assaulting an emergency worker, attempted burglary, interfering with a motor vehicle and two counts of burglary. He was also due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
- Bailey Carroll, 18, of Military Road, Colchester, has been charged with dangerous driving, driving otherwise in accordance with a license, driving without insurance, theft of a motor vehicle, four counts of burglary and five counts of attempted burglary. He is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday June 17.
- A 16-year-old boy, from Basildon, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, five counts of burglary and five counts of attempted burglary. He is due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (June 13).
