AVIATION fans are set to be treated to live music and ice-cold alcoholic beverages when a special event is held inside a Southend Airport hangar.

The Vulcan Restoration Trust event will see live music, street food, and locally brewed beers.

It is running from Friday, August 4, to Saturday, August 5, against the backdrop of the historic RAF XL426 aircraft.

The charity has been caring for the jet since it took up permanent residency in 1984.

Bosses have promised the first-of-its kind event on the airport’s grounds will bring “two days of great entertainment, good food and drink, all at a very affordable price”.

The event will see beverages from Black Box Brewery, as well as south Essex brands Datum Attitude Brewing Co and Tipsy Bubbles.

Alongside this, there will also be Pimms, prosecco, cocktail and gin bars, as well as street food from surrounding vendors.

Pub activities are available, including wooden skittle alleys and shove ha’penny boards.

Running from 2pm to 10:30pm, there will be live music, as well as three stage performances from bands and artists in the area.

So far, RnB rock band The Long Run, indie group Rooskin, nostalgic tracks performed by artists from Throwback to the Future, Jazz star Ruby Robinson and the Jazz Quartet have been confirmed as part of the line up.

Daniel Cowan, St Laurence ward councillor, said: “I think it is always great to have good events in the area and as long as they are run and managed well, and everyone is having a good time, it is a good thing for the area.

“We need to make sure they have got all the safety protocols in place and if this proves to be workable and successful, there should be more events in the future."

The Vulcan Restoration Trust has said free car parking is available.

Admission to the festival is £18 for adults and £4 for under-18s.

The ticket includes a £3 discount on a first Black Box Brewery pint and a complimentary festival beer glass.
