IN JUST over a month’s time, aviation fans and partygoers will be coming together for a festival as Southend Airport host a first-of-its-kind event in the Vulcan hangar.

Running from August 4 to August 5, the Music and Beer Festival at the Vulcan will see people enjoying live music, street food and ice-cold alcoholic beverages.

Organised by the Vulcan Restoration Trust, who lovingly care for the historic RAF XL426 aircraft, they have promised it will bring “two days of great entertainment, good food and drink, all at a very affordable price.”

Between 2pm and 10:30pm, guests can indulge in the live music, various alcoholic beverages and street food from surrounding vendors.

So far, RnB rock band The Long Run, indie group Rooskin, nostalgic tracks performed by artists from Throwback to the Future, Jazz star Ruby Robinson and the Jazz Quartet have been confirmed as part of the line up.

There will be Pimms, prosecco, cocktail and gin bars, and beverages supplied by Black Box Brewery, as well as south Essex brands Datum Attitude Brewing Co and Tipsy Bubbles.

Pub activities are also available, including wooden skittle alleys and shove ha’penny boards.

Daniel Cowan, St Laurence ward councillor, said: “I think it is always great to have good events in the area and as long as they are run and managed well, and everyone is having a good time, it is a good thing for the area.

“We need to make sure they have got all the safety protocols in place and if this proves to be workable and successful, there should be more events in the future."

The Vulcan Restoration Trust has said free car parking is available.

Admission to the festival is £18 for adults and £4 for under-18s.

The ticket includes a £3 discount on a first Black Box Brewery pint and a complimentary festival beer glass.
