A HISTORIC Wickford pub has confirmed a reopening date after undergoing major transformation works.

The Swan, on The Broadway, was seen boarded up in January, with reports it had closed permanently.

But bosses insisted it was going under a refurbishment, and now they have taken to Facebook to announce when the doors will once again throw open to the reverted original name The White Swan.

The post said: “The news we have all been waiting for!

“We are happy to announce, after much anticipation, we will be opening the doors to the public on July 28.

“We look forward to seeing you all with beaming smiles on our faces to welcome you all to The White Swan!”

As soon as the announcement was released, people were quick to share their excitement of the pub, which is believed to date back to 1925, opening.

One said: “Good luck for opening night. Can’t wait.”

Another wrote: “Fantastic news!!! We will come along on [the] 29th! Looking forward to seeing you.”

A third penned: “Brilliant news! I wish you every success.”

It comes as delays forced the owners to abandon its original May grand opening.

Since March, builders have torn up the brown carpet, ripped out the tired copper bar top and the “horrible” old shelves.

Now, they have installed a new bar with a laminated oak top, glossy dark green metro wall tiles and a copper-plated beer pump.

The White Swan is now reportedly going to be operated under Alma Mays Pubs.
