A CAR has been seized at a meet in Wickford after people were spotted sitting in the boot of a speeding vehicle.

Essex Roads Police assisted officers on the Shotgate Industrial Estate in Wickford last night following reports of a large car meet.

There were reports of anti-social driving and noise.

Officers say on arrival one car was seen driving around a corner at speed with the boot open and people sitting within.

The car has since been seized and Essex Police has issued a warning to car enthusiasts.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We assisted local officers on the Shotgate Industrial Estate in Wickford in last night for reports of a large car meet with anti-social driving and noise.

“One car was seen driving around a corner at speed with the boot open and people sitting precariously within and was seized using section 59 powers.

“We have nothing against genuine car enthusiasts who comply with the law and show respect to local communities around where they meet, however those who choose to drive in an anti-social manner or put others at risk will be dealt with robustly.”
