Police have made two arrests after a teenage boy was threatened and robbed at knifepoint on Canvey.

Officers received a call from a member of the public who stopped to help the boy, after he was approached by two young men at the lake, between Ferrymead and Denham Road, at around 9.45pm on Monday (July 10).

It was reported the two threatened the boy with a knife, before taking his mobile phone, rucksack, headphones, football kit and boots.

The victim’s phone was quickly traced to a nearby address the following day (July 11).

A 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, both from Canvey, were arrested and have since been charged with robbery.

They appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (July 12) and were remanded until a further hearing on Friday (July 14).

Officers investigating this incident continue to appeal for anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward.

PC Chris Horton, officer in the case, said: “We are looking for any witnesses who were in the area of The Lakes, between Ferrymead and Denham Road, to come forward.

“You may be able to assist us with our inquiries.

“We acted quickly to identify two suspects following this incident and we continue to offer support to the victim.”
