A popular gym at Basildon’s famous Festival Leisure Park has closed its doors for the final time.
Better Gym Basildon, which was formerly Fitness First, has been shut, leaving David Lloyd as the only gym at the park affectionately known as ‘Bas Vegas’.
Rusty’s Barbershop, which was part of the same building as the popular gym, has also closed its doors at the leisure park and moved into the Club Kingswood gym in Clayhill Lane.

However, JD Gyms has revealed it is opening a new branch in Basildon with its exact location yet to be confirmed, leaving residents wondering if the new gym could be coming to the former Better Gym unit.
When launched, JD Gyms Basildon will be a state-of-the-art facility with 250-plus pieces of the very best fitness equipment, a huge class studio hosting unlimited classes, an Eleiko functional zone and luxury changing rooms with saunas and a sled track.
There will also be vast free weights and cardio areas.
JD Gyms Basildon has also launched a pre-opening offer with founder members getting their first month for £5, no contract and no joining fee.
A spokesman for Festival Leisure Park said Travelodge owns the space where Better Gym was so will be choosing the next tenant and, as of yet, this has not been confirmed with the leisure park.
