SOUTHEND’S Adventure Island was the setting for a time travelling reunion as it welcomed a legendary BBC show for a nighttime filming shoot.

The Western Esplanade theme park revealed the exciting collaboration with BBC's Doctor Who.

For one night only, the site shut down in order to welcome Janet Fielding, 69, and Sarah Sutton, 61, from the corporation’s sci-fi drama to record a “reunion trailer”.

This is for the programme’s The Collection Blu-ray range.

Emma Dodson, Stockvale’s Digital Marketer, said: “What an exciting night it was.

“Seeing the TARDIS landing in the park was surreal and all the staff came out and took pictures.

“The filming was a quick turnaround with them arriving at 8pm and finishing at 2am.

“The actors, who were shooting a trailer with their characters meeting for the first time in a while, were just so lovely.”

Fielding’s character Tegan Jovanka, an Australian airline steward, was a companion of the fourth Doctor Tom Baker and the fifth Peter Davison, who starred in the show from 1981 to ’84.

After walking around the fairground to see an unknown person who told her to meet there, her eyes set on a woman.

It turned out to be her old friend Nyssa, played by Sutton, and they share an emotional, warm hug.

She portrayed the Trankenite aristocrat from 1981 to 1984.

It comes as Tegan and the Doctor left her on terminus in the Season 21 episode The Caves of Androzani: Part One.

According to Emma, bosses were approached by the BBC back in May and the production took place in June.

Doctor Who: The Collection is an ongoing series of Blu-ray boxsets with each being dedicated to a particular season from its 60-year history.

The next release, which is based around season 20, not only feature Sarah and Janet, but also Turlough, played by Mark Stickson.

All the episodes in the “jam-packed” boxset have been newly remastered.
