A teenage boy “got into difficulties” while swimming in Southend last night after taking a swim, sparking a dramatic a search and rescue operation.
Essex Police, the coastguard helicopter, RNLI and ambulance crews were all involved in bringing the boy to safety.
The incident happened near to Southend Pier after the teenager got into difficulty.
After a search, the boy was pulled out of the water to safety.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "We were contacted shortly before 8.15pm on Sunday, July 30 to reports a male had been retrieved from the sea near Southend Pier.
“Colleagues with several partners responded to this incident, including HM Coastguard, RNLI and the ambulance service.
“The male, who was conscious and breathing, was taken on to hospital for further checks.”
Paramedics and an ambulance incident commander were in attendance.
The Echo has contacted HM Coastguard Southend, RNLI Southend and the East of England Ambulance Trust for a comment.
