A free outdoor cinema is returning to Southend city centre this month with hit family-friendly films being shown.
This month will see Big Screen Southend return to The Forum in Elmer Square with this year’s programme selected in response to Southend Libraries' annual summer reading challenge.
The outdoor screenings take place every Saturday in August at 3pm and are free, with no booking necessary.

The films being shown will be:
- Kung Fu Panda (2008) on August 5
- Space Jam (1996) on August 12
- Surf’s Up (2007) on August 19
- Cars (2006) on August 26
During all of the screeenings, Focal Point Gallery will also be hosting an easy, free and fun activity for all ages between 1pm and 3pm.
Cinema-goers are urged to bring their own chairs or blankets and arrive early to find themselves a comfortable area to sit and avoid disappointment, as it will be operating a first come, first served policy.
Big Screen Southend is a purpose-built display screen which opened 10 years ago for the presentation of artist commissions, live transmissions, and short and feature films.
