A MAN has been charged in connection with a series of burglaries across Basildon following an investigation by detectives.

Basildon CID detectives have been investigating incidents where car keys were stolen from Basildon and Billericay homes, before vehicles were taken from driveways

In one incident, on Sunday, January 8, car keys were stolen from the hallway of a home in the Basildon area, before a BMW was taken from outside the property.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “The stolen vehicle was recovered the following day after it failed to stop for our officers. 

“We carried out extensive forensic checks on the vehicle. 

“Three properties in Billericay, all within walking distance of each other, were targeted in the early hours of Wednesday, February 15, with vehicles taken from outside two of the properties. 

“All vehicles taken were later recovered."

Officers arrested Callum O’Brien, 29, of Swanstead, Basildon, on Sunday 30 July.

O’Brien was later charged with four counts of burglary and appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 31.

He was remanded in custody until a further hearing at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday, August 29.
