SOUTHEND’S newest attraction is set to open in October, bosses have confirmed, as the transformation of a former restaurant into a bustling bar gets underway.
Boom Battle Bar, an “experience-based venue” offering axe-throwing, shuffleboard, beer pong, crazy golf and much more will open across two floors in the Victoria Shopping Centre.
Bosses have now confirmed that construction work is underway to overhaul the former Tangs Buffet restaurant and transform it into an “adventure bar”.
The plans have been long-awaited and excitement has been building in the city - however bosses have been tight-lipped on when it will officially open.
But now they have confirmed the project is on track to open in October.
The bar will cover approximately 10,500 sq ft across both the ground and first floor.
Derek Jarvis, councillor responsible for arts, culture, heritage, and leisure, was excited to hear about the progress.
He said: “It is great news that work is now underway on Boom Battle Bar, which will bring another exciting new dimension to the Victoria Shopping Centre, and we are confident it will be just as popular and successful as its Lakeside outlet.
“The Victoria has established itself as an exciting and diverse venue with retail outlets, food and drink, health services and fun adventure experiences with IndiRock and now Boom Battle Bar something for all ages right in the heart of our city centre.
“A thriving Victoria Shopping Centre is generating income for the council and with each new business that opens, much needed jobs are being created as we continue to create a strong and prosperous city.”
Boom Battle Bar will have a variety of games including “crazier” golf, shuffleboard, digital darts, beer pong and much more. They also serve delicious street food, exquisite cocktails, and unique craft beers.
Daniel Nelson, councillor responsible for economic growth and investment, added: “It is fantastic news.
“I personally am excited to see this great venue come to life and the economic benefits that will follow suit including employment opportunities.”
Since the council bought the centre a number of new and varied new units have opened up, including SpyMissions, IndiRock, an NHS blood testing centre, as well as newly-announced diagnostic centre set to open later this year.
