A MAJOR road in Essex remains closed more than five hours after a lorry hit a bridge in Essex.
The A13 is still closed eastbound at the Wennington interchange following an incident shortly after 12pm today.
Essex Police remain on the scene after a lorry had struck a bridge.
They say no injuries have been reported but the bridge has been damaged and a road closure has been put in place.
Traffic is continuing to build with “long delays” as a result.
Westbound was also closed earlier today following the collision but has since reopened – eastbound remains closed.
Emergency repairs are currently taking place to make it safe for vehicles to pass.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are on the scene of an incident on the A13 at the Wennington interchange during which a lorry has struck a bridge.
“The incident was reported shortly after 12pm today, Tuesday 8 August.
“No injuries have been reported but the bridge has been damaged and a road closure has been put in place.
“For safety reasons, the A13 has been closed. The carriageway over the bridge has also been closed.
“National Highways has been informed of the damage.”
