FILM fanatics are in for a treat this month as a "silent cinema" event is held in Leigh Old Town showing blockbuster movie Jaws.
Similarly, to a silent disco, those in attendance will don headphones as they kick back and relax to watch the film on a big screen at Leigh's Strand Wharf.
The event has been organised by booze firm Leigh Spirit Company with all proceeds from the event going to charity.
Taking place on August 26, residents are being encouraged to buy a ticket and bring a chair to the wharf and watch the 1875 Steven Spielberg classic with a backdrop of a high tide and a falling sun.
Cinema historian Chris Izod, from Southend, said: “It is a great idea.
“Back in 1975 when Jaws was released, people were queuing for ages to catch the Steven Spielberg thriller.
“So, for Leigh Spirit Company to showcase the magnificent piece of cinematic history is fantastic, and it will enable a whole new generation of film fans to discover it.
“Anything that promotes film and cinema is splendid, and we should do more of it, especially with movies being shot in the city in recent times.”
Guests will be greeted and treated to a vinyl DJ set by Sam Baws, who will get everyone in the spirit before the movie kicks off at 8.15pm.
A full bar will also be provided by the firm, which will be available all through the night.
Tickets are £15, which covers headphone rental and an age limit of 13 plus has been set by organisers.
Aston Line, Westborough ward Labour councillor and a big Jaws fan, said: “I am thrilled to learn about this very special screening of Jaws which is my all-time favourite film.
“I will certainly be taking a trip to the wharf.”
Derek Jarvis, councillor responsible for arts, culture, heritage and leisure, said: “I congratulate Leigh Spirit Company on organising this event at Strand Wharf a fitting location for such a film.
“I wish them every success with this venture which could set the scene for outdoor silent film shows by other businesses and entertainment organisations at locations around the city”.
All proceeds from the event will be going to the Shark Trust, whose mission is to safeguard a future for sharks, skates and rays through “positive change”.
