WITNESSES urged to contact Essex Police following a fatal motorcycle crash in Benfleet. 

A biker died after being involved in a serious crash which closed a busy road for at least six hours. 

Kents Hill Road, in Benfleet, was shut shortly before 2.30pm on Wednesday after reports of a crash, with emergency services flooding the street.

Despite the best efforts of the ambulance service, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency services have confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Essex Police has launched an investigation into the circumstances and is urging anyone with information to come forward.

Andrew Sheldon, Essex county councillor for South Benfleet, sent his best wishes to the biker’s family after the tragedy.

He said: “It is absolutely tragic to hear of this.

“There is a family in Benfleet that is grieving right now, and we do hope any other people involved recover soon.

“Our thoughts and prayers are them.

“I urge anyone with any information at all on the incident to come forward to the police and quote the incident number of 678 of August 15.” Kents Hill Road was closed in both directions for hours following the crash between Albion Road and Bowers Road. A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are investigating a fatal collision involving a motorcycle and need anyone with information to come forward.

“Officers were called to Kents Hill Road, Benfleet, shortly before 2.30pm on Tuesday August 15.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of ambulance service colleagues, a man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident continue.

“If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

“Please quote incident 678 of August 15.”

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 2.17pm to a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle on Kents Hill Road.

“An ambulance, ambulance officer vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of medics, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
