ECHO readers have left heartfelt messages in our online book of condolence for the much-loved Southend actor Darren Kent who has died.

The 36-year-old, who came from Westcliff, suddenly passed away last Friday surrounded by his parents and best friend.

It is unknown as to what Darren’s cause of death was, but the star, who appeared in the HBO fantasy drama Game of Thrones and BBC’s EastEnders, battled and overcame osteoporosis, arthritis and an extremely rare skin disorder throughout his life.

But since the news of his death was announced, the Echo set up an online book of condolence for readers to pay their respects.

Sarah Burrows said: “So sad to hear the news. I worked on a short film Darren directed in 2021. He was a super person to work with, kind and considerate of others, funny and very good at his job.

June Childs wrote: “He was a lively man, always smiling. He was also in my son in laws first film, My Feral Heart; that's when I first met him. I only saw him in June, in Southend for the screening of Love without Walls. Such Loss. Condolences to his family and many friends. RIP Darren.

Zara Cross left: “Darren, I’ve known you for many years, when you were in my garden telling me one day you would be an actor and you definitely fulfilled your dreams. RIP my friend.”

David Wood penned: “I had the pleasure of teaching Darren at South East Essex College 20 years ago. He was an excellent student who kept in touch, and it was a pleasure to see his career flourish with all his commitments and dedication. A very sad loss and my thoughts are with his family at this time.”

Michelle Tegerdine typed: “Darren, when I think of you, I can't help but grin...even through the tears of knowing you are no longer with us because I know heaven has gained an absolute beauty of a man. I had the honour of getting to know you when we done our pantos together at RDP. Performing alongside you, your dad and Gary was so much fun. What you went on to achieve in life is amazing. So incredibly proud to have known you. That cheeky laugh of yours will stay with me forever. Shine bright up there mate. I'll check in on Gal from time to time for you. Lots of love Michelle T x.”

And Guy Douglas stated: “Darren Kent was a fantastic person and a fine actor who I had the pleasure of knowing as a student many years ago and have kept in contact all these years following his career with joy and seeing him in many a roles in films showing at Southend Film Festival and Horror on Sea. He will be missed by many, and my thoughts are with his friends and family, sleep well sir. G.”
