Plane spotters are set to get the chance to watch the famous Red Arrows land at Southend Airport today.

Southend Airport has announced it will be Facebook livestreaming the famous RAF planes as they land this evening (August 19).

The airport will be going live on the social media platform at 7.45pm on Saturday as the Red Arrows arrive.

Unfortunately, Southend is unable to hold any events or offer ramp tours for plane spotters hoping to witness the Red Arrows in person this weekend, due to safety precautions and its increase in flights with easyJet.

A spokesman previously told the Echo: “This is purely from a security perspective. It was fantastic last year, and we all very much enjoyed it, but it was organised very last minute.

“Now this year, where we have a lot more flights - with the aircrafts being very valuable and very important, and the risk of inviting people onto the ramp, we just can’t facilitate it this year which is unfortunate.”

The page will go live again on Sunday, August 20 at midday for an interview with Red Arrows Synchro leader Red 6, James Turner.

Residents will have a chance to ask Mr Turner a question when he goes live with Southend Airport on Sunday (August 20). To submit a question, visit the airport's Facebook page at facebook.com/LondonSouthendAirport.

The airport will play host to RAF aircraft this week which are taking part in the Eastbourne Airshow today and tomorrow (August 20), Folkestone Airshow, which is also on Sunday, and the Clacton Airshow on August 24 and 25.
