A NEW route has been announced from Southend Airport to a city in the French Alps.

Southend Airport bosses have shared this news this morning of new flights to Grenoble.

Grenoble is the largest city in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of southeastern France.

It is most famous for its beautiful setting in the Alps, as well as its many museums and historical landmarks.

Flights with easyJet start on Sunday, January 14, 2024, and are once a week, every Sunday - and are already on sale.

This comes just weeks later after Southend Airport announced the return of flights to Alicante.

The new Grenoble route just adds to the number of growing destinations at the airport including Malaga, Majorca, Faro, Paris, Geneva, Alicante, and Amsterdam.

A spokesman for Southend Airport said: "New route to Grenoble.

"Snow-capped peaks, charming villages and exhilarating outdoor activities await in Grenoble, the cultural capital of the French Alps.

"Join 600,000 yearly visitors taking in the breathtaking majesty of the mountains with access to Val-d'Isère, Tignes and Méribel as part of Les 3 Vallées.

"Dive into homemade Alpine cooking at local bistros, or indulge in gourmet delights at one of Grenoble's renowned restaurants.

"And as the sun sets over the snowy peaks, the city comes alive with cafés, bars and venues offering a taste of vibrant local nightlife.

"Families, foodies and thrill-seekers alike flock to Grenoble for the pinnacle of the French Alps experience. So strap on your ski boots and take to the slopes - your Alpine adventure begins here."
