A BENFLEET care home has been taken out of special measures after making major improvements in a huge turnaround.

Godden Lodge Care Home, in Hart Road, had previously been rated “inadequate” after an inspection in February.

However, the site was re-inspected in June, and the newly published report this month, sees it now rated “good”.

The report stated: “Risks to people's safety and wellbeing were assessed and recorded. These identified how risks to people's safety and wellbeing were to be reduced and the actions required to keep people safe.

“At our last inspection in February 2023, we observed several incidents whereby staff performed unsafe moving and handling practices. At this inspection we found no concerns relating to staffs' moving and handling practices.

“Medication practices ensured the proper and safe use of medicines in line with good practice standards and relevant national guidance.

“Staff who administered medication were trained and had their competency assessed to ensure they remained competent to undertake this task safely.

“At our last inspection, effective arrangements were not in place to ensure there were enough staff available to meet people's needs.

“Enough improvement had been made at this inspection and the provider no longer remained in breach of this regulation.”

Godden Lodge Care Home is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care for people aged 65 and over.

At the time of the inspection, there were 60 people living at the service.

CQC noted that the care home had made major improvements since the previous inspection.

A spokesperson for Godden Lodge said they are delighted with the new rating.

They said: “We are committed to delivering high quality, kind care, and we will always act on feedback which helps us to do this. We are therefore delighted that the hard work and kind care of our home has been recognised in the CQC’s latest inspection report – which rated us ‘good’ in all areas.

“We were particularly pleased to read the positive comments made by our residents and their loved ones throughout the regulator’s recent inspection report, including ‘the staff are absolutely marvellous’ and ‘I have nothing but admiration for the home and staff’.

“Everyone at Godden Lodge is united in our mission to continue building on the recent ‘good’ rating and go above and beyond to achieve the very best for those who choose to make their home with us.”
