A successful Leigh boat trip business has secured three dates for passengers to see Southend's seafront firework displays from the privacy of the estuary this year.

Angus Browne, 34, set up Brownes Thames Estuary Boat Trips in 2021, and was handed a pleasure boat licence from Southend Council this year after demand for the trips has "gone mental".

Now, back by popular demand, the firm will be running trips to see the city's popular seafront fireworks in October and November, by working alongside Southend Pier.

A spokesman announced on their Facebook page: "Want to beat the crowds of Southend? Then why not come and watch this fantastic show from the privacy of the sea onboard Starfish boat which only takes 10 passengers!"

The dates confirmed are October 7 from 7pm to 9pm, October 28 from 7pm to 10pm and November 11 from 7pm to 9pm.

The "one-of-a-kind" trips cost £70 per person including pier entry and train fare, boat pick up and drop off back into Leigh. Passengers will be picked up from the end of Southend Pier slipway.

Trip-goers are offered food boxes onboard at £18 per person from the popular Sara's Tea Garden in Old Leigh, but must contact Brownes to arrange this.

They can also bring their own food and drink, which must be consumed outside on deck and not in the wheelhouse. Alcohol is also allowed in moderation.

The spokesman added: "This fantastic one of a kind opportunity was extremely popular last year and sold out within a day so we advise you get in touch with us ASAP!"
