A DATE has been revealed for the return of Southend’s iconic Christmas switch-on event this year.
Southend BID has announced the festive event is back on November 18, 2023.
From noon onwards, Southend High Street will come alive with a day-long extravaganza featuring a diverse array of performances, special guests, and festive activities.
Suzanne Gloyne, manager of Southend City BID expressed her enthusiasm for the event.
She said: “Southend is renowned for its extraordinary Christmas events, and we take immense pleasure in creating enduring memories during this festive season.
“We are overjoyed to present this incredible day-long switch-on event, filled with uplifting performances and fantastic entertainment.
“We anticipate this will be a day cherished by both locals and visitors, as we come together to celebrate our beautifully decorated city for Christmas.”
The main stage by The Victoria Centre, will showcase an eclectic mix of local talent, including flamenco dancers, a lively Ceilidh band, and the debut performance of The Ironworks Youth Theatre.
The vibrant sounds of steel Caribbean drums will add to the festivities, promising an unforgettable experience for all.
The day will crescendo with a heartwarming festive sing-along, complete with lyrics displayed on a big screen, setting the stage for the grand Christmas lights switch-on.
The evening will culminate in the spectacular finale of the seafront firework displays, marking the beginning of Southend's iconic winter celebrations.
Adding to the magic, children can embark on the enchanting Christmas trail, “Spread the Cheer, and Leave as a Reindeer”, where they will transform into reindeer by visiting designated stations in BID Zone businesses.
The trail finishes with a magical encounter with Father Christmas, ensuring a truly memorable experience.
Meanwhile, the artisan craft market, nestled near the railway bridge on the High Street, will feature a host of local creatives showcasing their wares. Live music and walkabout entertainment will further enliven the High Street, creating a vibrant atmosphere for festive shoppers.
