A large planned car meet has sparked a dispersal order in a south Essex area this weekend.
This will be in place in West Thurrock from 8pm on Friday (September 22) until 8pm on Sunday (September 24) following information suggesting a large car meet is due to take place there.
It will give police officers powers to direct anyone suspected of causing anti-social behaviour to leave the area or face arrest.
Inspector Terry Fisher said: “We are taking this action to keep the public safe and avoid anti-social behaviour.
“Historically, the noise and nature of the driving from these events has cause people living nearby real issues.
“Some previous events have also seen collisions, crime, and disorder take place as a consequence.
“Roads have been blocked while others race nearby, creating a serious risk to all involved.
“Earlier this year we had a similar type-event where a pedestrian who attended was left injured.
“Taking this action will hopefully prevent the event from taking place but gives officers the power to direct anyone believed to be taking part to leave the area to ensure the safety of the public using our roads.”
