A STOLEN BMW was destroyed after crashing into a number of parked vehicles after fleeing from police who ordered the driver to pull over.
A manhunt has been launched to find the driver who managed to run from the scene of the crash in Eastwood Road North, Leigh, at roughly 2am on Tuesday.
Police initially received reports of a stolen BMW which was spotted by police, but the driver failed to stop when ordered to do so by officers.
Shortly after it failed to stop, the car was found after crashing into a number of parked vehicles.
Laurie Burton, Blenheim Park ward Labour councillor, said: “Around Eastwood Road North, there are lots of families with young children and schools.
“It is incredibly concerning someone was driving dangerously in these roads.
“It is fortunate the situation was not a whole lot worse, which it could have been.
“However, I am pleased the police have acted so quickly on the incident, and I really hope they track down these people who were driving the stolen BMW.”
No arrests have been made, but the force is carrying out enquiries in an attempt to track down the occupants of the stolen car.
No-one was believed to be injured when the car crashed into the parked vehicles.
An Essex Police spokesman said: “Officers were alerted to the presence of BMW which had been reported as stolen in the Leigh area in the early hours of Tuesday, September 26.
“That car then failed to stop when requested by the officers.
“A short time after, the vehicle was located in Eastwood Road having collided with a number of parked vehicles.
“Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
“No arrests have been made at this time; however, enquiries are ongoing to try and locate the occupants of the vehicle.
“We need anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information on it to get in touch.
“You can call us on 101.
“Please cite crime incident 87 of 26 September.”
