HIGHER than usual tides could cause flooding on the south Essex coast, forecasters have warned.
A flood alert has been issued covering the Essex coast from St Peters Flat to Shoebury, including Burnham, South Woodham Ferrers, Hullbridge, and the Crouch and Roach estuaries.
The alert advises residents to take care on coastal roads and footpaths and to avoid "unnecessary danger".
The alert was triggered because some minor flooding to coastal roads and footpaths may occur because of higher-than-expected tides between noon and 2pm today.
The alert, published on Gov.uk, says: "Tide levels will be high at Battlesbridge and Hullbridge riversides. The Creeksea Ferry Road onto Wallasea Island may be flooded."
It follows an alert issued to north Essex residents yesterday.
What is a flood alert?
The Environment Agency says that “a flood alert means you need to prepare - flooding is possible”.
Their advice includes having a bag ready with vital items in case you need to leave your home, and checking how to turn off your gas, electricity, and water mains supplies.
