NEARLY 70 drivers were reported for traffic offences as police officers clamped down on motorists to keep south Essex roads safe.
Officers from Essex Police's Roads Policing Unit seized three vehicles and reported 68 drivers for traffic offences as part of the force's Thurrock Vision Zero day.
On September 27, officers were joined by Trading Standards, which worked alongside the RPU to tackle vehicle weight limit complaints and environmental issues.
In total, 20 vehicles were stopped and drivers spoken to.
A total of 68 drivers were reported for offences regarding seatbelts, using mobile phones, MOT and insurance issues, number plates, dangerous conditions, tints and speeding.
In addition, three uninsured vehicles were seized.
A spokesman for the police said: “Vision Zero days highlight to the public road-related crime won’t be tolerated and show we will take all necessary action to tackle offenders and to remove any risk to other road users.
“Vision Zero is a partnership approach to keeping roads in Essex safe for everyone with an aspiration for no road deaths by 2040 or sooner.
