A CAR careered through a fence and brick wall and a hit a home before the driver fled the scene, leaving a family devastated.

Shortly before 5am on Tuesday morning, a white car flew through the fence and wall in Denham Road, Canvey, before coming to a stop against the wall of the home – leaving huge cracks in the brickwork.

A hunt is now underway to find the driver – who left the car wedged against the home and fled – and Essex Police are urgently appealing for witnesses.

The homeowner claims CCTV footage which captured the aftermath shows the “driver screaming for help, saying she is drunk” before leaving the scene.

The 71-year-old resident, who asked not to be named, only became aware of the incident when she returned home from a day of work.

Her daughter in law told the Echo: “As a family, we are absolutely heartbroken, this is the last thing my mother-in-law needed. How somebody could do this and then just leave is absolutely heartless.

“She wasn’t home at the time as she was away on respite due to being a carer, and she came home to this. The whole of the front of the house has been shifted from the impact. The driver must have been going extremely fast. It is awful.

“She is very upset, and already has so much on her plate caring for my father-in-law.

“Now it looks as though they will both have to move out while the repairs are being sorted, and who knows how long that could take.”

Images show cracks across the home, both internally and externally, from the impact of the crash.

They also show police on the scene of the incident, and a recovery vehicle taking the car away.
