PICTURES have show the inside of an empty Wickford hotel which was used asylum seekers after it went on the market for £1.6million.
The images of the Chichester Hotel, in Old London Road, have been revealed as it is put up for sale with business property adviser Christie & Co taking the lead.
The proposed sale comes just over a year after the hotel was turned into a home for asylum-seekers.
The Home Office scheme was axed after it received strong community and political backlash.
It is now closed as a new buyer is being sought.
The Chichester Hotel is a substantial, character property with origins dating back to the 13th century.
It has 36-bedrooms, a pub, and a restaurant, as well as a beamed farm building converted for leisure use.
There is also parking for up to 164 vehicles, which can be accessed from most of the bedrooms and public areas.
Christie & Co says the property “offers excellent potential”.
The Chichester Hotel ceased trading around May 2023, and had been operating under a lease.
It had previously been renowned as one of the region’s most popular venues for weddings and events before it closed.
Alongside the different rooms, other facilities include a hotel reception, managers office, and communication room.
The dining pub has room for 70 covers, the Chichester Function suite has space for around 200 people, with the Essex Barn Function Suite covering around 125 guests.
The Chichester Function suite has beautifully restored Tudor beamed ceilings and walls, with a dance floor, raised stage, champagne bar, and furniture store.
The Essex Barn is a more rustic styled Tudor room established from a converted barn, with high vaulted oak beamed ceilings.
Both function suites have their own entrance separate from the hotel reception allowing for multiple events to run concurrently.
