POLICE have continued to appeal to members of the public who may have any information about a crash which killed one boy and seriously injured another whilst they were being taken to school.
All emergency services were called to an incident in Stock Road shortly after 8.20am on Friday after there were reports of a vehicle colliding with two children.
A 15-year-old boy died at the scene and another boy was airlifted to hospital.
The headteacher of Mayflower High School in Billericay, where the 15-year-old was a student, said the school’s thoughts and prayers were with the families involved.
Following the incident, a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.
Essex Police’s detective inspector Mark Fraser of the force’s serious collision investigation unit said officers were continuing to review footage to try and make sense of the incident.
He said: “This tragic incident has had a huge impact on the community.
“We are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have any information to contact us.”
In the aftermath of the incident, officers appeared to be looking at a red car and a green van.
The red car was later lifted on to the back of a truck to be taken from the scene.
Anyone who has any information which may assist the police’s investigation should contact Essex Police on 101 and cite crime incident 218 of 3 November.
