A popular Rochford spa has issued a scam warning to its followers as fraudsters are allegedly targeting customers with a fake website.
The Athenaeum Club is a prestigious health club and day spa in Cherry Orchard Way with more than 20,000 followers combined on its social media pages. The popular spa regularly posts day spa promotions and competitions with packages up for grabs.
However, fraudsters have recently been targeting the spa's customers with a scam website purporting to be the club. The club does not currently have a website.
Bookings can only be made by calling the club reception and payment is taken at the time of the booking. Customers cannot pay for spa days online or through social media pages.
A spokesman shared on Facebook: "There is a website appearing on Instagram and Facebook purporting to be The Athenaeum Club Website. This is not genuine it is a scam.
"The Athenaeum does not at present have an official website.
"We post our day spa packages, our treatment menu, current promotions and competitions on Instagram and Facebook.
"Bookings can only be made by calling the Athenaeum Club reception direct and payment will be taken at the time time of booking.
"No booking or payments can be made online."
