An elderly man has suffered serious injuries after being deliberately hit by a car near Southend Airport.

A man in his 80s had been driving in Eastwoodbury Crescent when another vehicle began flashing their lights and sounding their horn. 

He stopped and got out of his car at which point the other vehicle is reported to have driven at him and struck him. He was left with serious injuries.

The incident was reported to have taken place at around 5pm last Monday.

The car has been described as black and the driver as a young man.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "The incident happened in a busy part of Southend at a time when we believe there would have been a number of people around who would have seen what happened.

"If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

"Please quote the crime reference number 42/203086/23."
