A FAMILY have been left terrified after “sections of their ceiling collapsed” in their 14-month-old child’s bedroom.

Bailey Marshall, 27, has claimed she now feels unsafe in her own home after heavy rain led to a “quarter of the hallway ceiling collapsing” as well as sections of the ceiling in the bedroom of her son, Olyver.

Management company, Pier Management, have said they responded within 24 hours to make a temporary repair to the ceiling in the flat, with the electrics confirmed to be safe and damage believed to have been caused by heavy rainfall.

However, the family, who live in Anchor Lane, Canewdon, are calling for urgent repairs and are worried their home is unsafe.

Bailey said: “It came down in my son’s bedroom and when you look at the holes, wood and metal that came down its disgusting, whoever did it is a cowboy.

“The fear we are living in with this is for my first child, this is my little boy, he’s been in and out of A&E and it is coming down in his bedroom, what if we are sleeping and it comes down?

Bailey added that she’s highlighting her own situation after the ceiling collapsed in November 6, to “let other families know they’re not the only ones going through this.”

Bailey said: “We are stuck and we can’t go anywhere, we don’t even know if we can stay in the bedrooms anymore, I got a call from the council and they don’t usually get involved but they want to see what they can do to help. We know we have signed a lease, but they know how bad it is and they know how bad the roof is.”

A spokesperson for Pier Management said: “Pier appoint a third party to manage this property and our agent has been in regular communication with the affected resident.

“The agent is also in the process of receiving a quote for, and thereafter instructing, temporary works to the external flat roof to prevent further water leaking through.

“Residents in the building were advised earlier in the year of the need for extensive works to the roof and have been invoiced their portion of costs as per the lease agreements.”
