The Basildon branch of Dog Trust has shared five dogs which are in need of a new home this week.
Take a look at them here:
Charmer, a six-year-old greyhound
Charmer is a beautiful, fun-loving ex-racing Greyhound. He is a calm character who walks nicely on the lead, but also loves to zoom about with a toy when the mood strikes. He enjoys human company and is looking for a calm, adult only home, where he can be given space to take himself away when he needs to. Charmer is on long term pain relief for an old racing injury. He needs a quiet home with not many visitors and no visiting children. He must be the only pet in the home but can have sighthound walking buddies. Ideally, his new home will have space for his bed to be tucked away where he won't be disturbed if he wants some alone time. Charmer would like to have access to his own secure garden to zoom about in, especially as he has to be on lead and muzzled when out on walks due to his strong prey drive. Experience with lurchers or greyhounds would be desirable.
Dotty, an eight-year-old lurcher
Sweet-natured Dotty can live with dog-savvy children over the age of 11 years old who can give her space when she wants time alone. She would like a private secure garden to explore in and help with housetraining. Knowledge of the lurcher breed would be beneficial due to her prey drive. Must be the only dog in the home and cannot live with cats or small furries. Dotty can walk with calm dogs and will need ongoing dog socialisation in her new home as can be a bit unsure and bark.
Ace, a two-year-old beagle
Ace is a lovely boy who is looking for an active family that can take him on lots of fun adventures. Ace can live with dog savvy children over the age of 14 years who are able to give him space when he wants as he does have a nervous side. Ace can potentially live with another dog depending on a successful dog introduction here at our Centre. He can't live with cats this is due to him chasing cat in the previous home. Ace is seeking experienced owners that are able continue with all his basic training and able to manage his mouthing when he gets over excited. He loves exploring and is a typical beagle so knowledge of the breed essential. Ace is a friendly boy but can be vocal and bouncy. He will need a private secure garden with high fencing, in his previous home he was an escape artist and, he has no recall. Ace would benefit from regular visits to secure off lead fields to burn some energy.
Toby, an eight-year-old chihuahua (smooth coat) cross
Toby is a sweet boy who is ready to search for his forever home. He can live with children over the age of 14 years old that are able to give him space when he wants. He needs to be the only dog in the home. Would benefit from a secure private garden to explore in and help with housetraining. Understanding of Chihuahua breed would be beneficial as they can be vocal. He does not need long walks and enjoys a calm stroll. Toby would benefit from a quiet home with not too many visitors.
Bing, a three-year-old English springer spaniel
Bing is an active boy seeking an active home that can give him lots of mental and physical stimulation. He can live with dog savvy children over the age of 14 years old that are used to excitable dogs as he can jump up when over excited. He must be the only dog in the home but can have walkies buddies. Experience with spaniels is desirable or at least knowledge of the breed traits. He loves to hold things in his mouth we are teaching him the swap game as he can be reluctant to drop them.
