A CRACKDOWN on speeding in Southend has seen two people arrested.
Volunteers from community speed watch and special constables have worked alongside road policing officers to tackle speeding in the area.
Volunteer officers led events at two Southend locations on Wednesday, December 13, with Southend volunteer officers conducting traffic in Shoeburyness and Thorpe Bay.
The team captured seven speeding offences, issuing tickets to all drivers.
A top speed of 42mph was recorded on a 30mph road.
A ticket for no MOT was also issued.
During a total of 35 hours of policing, they also executed four high priority warrants and arrested a person wanted on warrant for assault on an emergency worker.
A second person, wanted on recall to prison, was also arrested.
Special Inspector Samantha Wright said: “I’m incredibly grateful to every single one of our community speed watch volunteers who give up their time to support people who live in, work in and visit Essex, they are greatly valued.
“Their desire to improve their communities and hard work to monitor speed limits alongside our regular officers and staff is a credit to themselves and Essex police each and every time they join us.”
Last week, community speedwatch volunteers joined similar events across the county, making a valuable contribution to identifying speeding motorists.
They also represent their community and support Vision Zero, Essex Police's aspiration for no road deaths by 2040 or sooner.
