A DISABLED man has been left feeling “petrified and anxious” after a thug broke into his car twice within three days and stole his blue badge.
Terry Grenfell, 37, was left in a state of shock after the first incident but is now exceptionally worried and warning others after a second incident in just days.
Mr Grenfell’s car was parked in Bridgwater Drive, Westcliff, close to his home during both incidents.
Mr Grenfell has now spent “more than £100” on enhancing security to his MG HS, including a steering wheel lock, and has reached out to independent charity Victim Support who have supplied him with alarms.
He said: “It’s shocking, and I’m petrified, anxious and living on edge.
“On the first incident, my dash cam, blue badge and Christmas cards were all stolen.
“Luckily, a woman messaged me saying my blue badge had been found and she returned it to me the next day.
“However, I stupidly put it back in my car not realising the same incident would happen again.
“I’m living on edge because if it’s happened twice, it could happen again, and I’m also petrified because they know my address and could steal my car or even target my house.”
The first incident took place on Saturday, before the second on Tuesday this week.
In the aftermath of the second incident, Mr Grenfell put out pleas on Facebook asking people to be on the look out for his blue badge.
He also went to victim support, who Mr Grenfell has said have been “great”.
The former paramedic suffers from Fibromyalgia a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body.
Through the benefits with the mobility scheme that allows those with a disability to exchange their mobility allowance for a new car, he got his MG HS.
He added: “If my car was stolen, I’d be housebound.
“It’s incredibly important for me, and I just hope there won’t be a repetition of these incidents or them escalating further.”
An Essex Police spokesman said: “We received a report entry had been forced to a vehicle, in Bridgwater Drive, Westcliff, at some point between 6.30pm on Monday December 18 and 11.20am on December 19.
“It was reported a blue badge was stolen from inside.”
